Scott Kugler, Bertrand Man Fatally Injured in Kearney County Train-Vehicle Collision
XTELL, NE – A tragic train-vehicle accident in Kearney County on Thursday, January 29th, has resulted in the death of a Bertrand man. The incident occurred approximately four miles east of Axtell.
Reports indicate that a pickup truck was proceeding northbound on 27 Road in rural Kearney County. As the vehicle approached and began to cross the railroad tracks near Highway 6, it was struck on its passenger side by a westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railway train.
The driver of the pickup, identified as 56-year-old Scott Kugler of Bertrand, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Nebraska State Patrol is spearheading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision. They are being assisted by the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office and representatives from BNSF Railway as the investigation continues. Further details are expected as the inquiry progresses.
